I'm no mechanical engineer, but I'm astonished that you can move the mass of 
the plate up and down with a 3/16" set screw, with a hex socket inset in its 
head!  Even if there's not much side force on it, the weight must be 
considerable -- unless you have 50 of them or something.

Common sense bites the dust yet again...
