I assume you've never tried it.  I once took a  gob of pvc-e, dried it for a 
couple of days, boiled it in water and it didn't do anything to it.  That's 
the beauty of it.  It's thinned with water but after it is dry, it is 
comletely waterproof.  It drys almost clear and stays flexible.  You can 
however warm well with a heat gun and the key top will peel off even after 
several weeks.
