Had it been a serious piece it would have failed. My point, if there was one, was just to illustrate how impossible it is to avoid treading on political sensitivities of someone, somewhere, no matter how hard one tries. I've only been wished "Happy Holiday" in a couple of stores this year. Each time I have been just cantankerous enough to thank the wisher for wishing me a happy "holy day" -- the reactions have been interesting. I thought the piece was quite humorous, and illustrative of how postmoderns have become fools in their attempts to placate everyone and offend no one. I wasn't thinking of a "holy day" since "holiday" in our vernacular can refer to any day off work, such as July 4. I guess if you wanted to get downright persnickety about it, "Christmas" used to be "Christ Mass." I'm not Catholic, so I don't follow the church calendar; however, the Christmas season is still a good time to remember there is a greater reason for the season than the "cha-ching" of the cash register. Are you sure you want to burden your politically correct friends with an overtly religious holy day?
