The way I've done it in the past is to compare, side by side, the brass rail with one of the new wooden flanges to see what modifications I need to make. If I measure the difference in center pin position, vertically and horizontally, I can draw appropriate cut lines on the hammer rail (which would work for a rabbet plane or a table saw, choose your poison :^). Even after making the cuts, the brass plate mounting screw holes should still be visible and the old plates can be used for marking the flange screw holes (best as I can recollect - it's been a while). I figure if it played acceptably before, it should after. Maybe I was just lucky?
