I've never worried about shaving, but I did get all the way to the
coast one day (1 hour drive) without my tuning kit. I had left it
at a customer's (we chatted over Christmas goodies and watched a
taped concert after a tuning) two days before.

I had a spare hammer and tuning fork, but no mutes. I put some
in the stringing kit after that.

I felt like a prize idiot, of course. Just had to drive back
home and come another day.
