Go Bars...(Material)

I always thought that hickory was the traditional wood used for go bars.

I should thing Hickory would be the best choice for go bars, as it is the
best wood for resistance to sheer. I used to own a pair of hickory skis and
they we heavy but very flexible. It's THE material for making wooden
threaded stock, for piano legs, etc.
