By the way, the ratios given assume you are diluting lacquer with 12% solids (check the can, or ask to see the Material Safety Data Sheet).  Some lacquer has 25% solids, in which case you would double the ratio.  3:1 with 12% solids is the same as 6:1 with 25% solids.  It's the solids, after all, that remain behind and do the work.

                  Typical lacquer to lacquer thinner ratios, are 3:1 for aggressive treatment,  to 6:1 just to add a little sparkle.
  Just be very cautious, better yet, try and fine an experienced tech to supervise you on your first job.
