By the way, the ratios given assume you are diluting lacquer with 12% solids (check the can, or ask to see the Material Safety Data Sheet). Some lacquer has 25% solids, in which case you would double the ratio. 3:1 with 12% solids is the same as 6:1 with 25% solids.
