Hi Robert: You will get a lot of response to your question. My suggestion is to roughen the surfaces of the mute with a coarse file, rough sandpaper or a checkering file-the kind used on grand hammer tails. This helps to keep it in place between the strings. Someone is going to suggest tying a string or yarn to the mute handle, for me they get in the way, and you still have to re install the mute when it works loose.
