Steinway Hammer Boring Angles

Hi, Joe.  I bored a pair at 10 degrees, and I noticed that as I decreased the angle to 9, and then to 8 degrees, that clearance increased.  That is why I thought that 8 would work for the whole section. 10 was really tight.  I just never saw, or didn't notice, a fan in bass boring angles before

  I've found that anything over 10 degrees will cause clearance problems. I tend to bore hammers so that the hammer is as parallel to the string(s) as possible and not create the aforementioned clearance problem. YMMV <G>
