Fwiw - I also have had the same problem with a couple of Baldwins over the past 3 weeks. The difference is that these were over 20 years old. But, I thought it may not hurt to pass on this info. The problem (in this case) was being caused by worn bushing cloth and broken pedal pivot pins. Replacing these made the pedal travel straight up and down with no side play at all. (Never hurts to check this - even on a new piano). Are you SURE that the noise is coming from that area of the piano and not from higher up?? Being certain of the location of the noise can be a BIG help in the solution for it. As to how those pedal rods are held in - I believe it is via a small drive pin that is driven through the pedal rod socket, then through the rod and through the other side of the socket. No set screws on any that I've worked on. (so far).... Btw - that question is NOT dumb!!!!! The damper pedal is making a horrible grinding sound and I cant for the life of me solve it. The pedal actually seems to have a set screw of some sort going into the rod through the rubber bushing. I could not figure out how to get the rod out and it sounds like the noise is coming from the bushing. Any one work for a Baldwin dealer and have experience with these things? Am I totally missing something obvious? Slap me if I am. Thanks, -- ----Dave ----------------------------- Dave Doremus, RPT New Orleans ------------------------------
