Mason AA key end felts

Just looked at my AA (1939 vintage) and found someone had glued on thin 
strips of felt (a la fallboard felt) to build up the key end felts 
_EXCEPT_ for the lowest 6 notes.   They were the original felt only.  
Must be something to what you say.
