They could try maple syrup, but does it _work_?  Every pianomaker I 
know uses alcohol and I've never heard of anyone using vinegar.  If 
vinegar did work, it would have the advantage of not dissolving 
lacquers and varnishes.  With alcohol I can get the side of an 
upright piano off clean in 5 minutes.  How does vinegar compare?
