TuneLab Pocket has a "close" menu item that - unlike the "X" in the
corner - actually closes out the program. That is a real help.

Subject: Re: New PDA

I bought the Dell X50v about 1.5 years ago. It's currently outdated. It
cannot run the latest version of Windows Mobile (in part because Dear
Microsoft changed hardware requirements.) For a brief time, Dell had an
upgrade to WinMob 5 for my X50v, but then retracted it (thankfully
before I spent the bucks) because they learned that "it worked for a
little while, then it didn't work any more" (tech speak from Dell "Tech
Support" (i.e. "Help Desk")).

That said, I'm fairly satisfied with it. It's the only Dell product I've
ever owned. Support (as just mentioned) is spotty.

I'm responding because I'd like to clarify something about PDA's. They
are actually "always on", unless the battery dies. When you press the
off button, all that does is turn the display off. The OS and all your
data are in volatile memory which requires constant electron
excitementation... unless you save to the much slower (but also usually
much larger) card. That's why you have to reinstall PRCT etc when (not
IF) you battery dies and your 1/2 hour backup battery expires as well.

I've heard a suggestion which seems to help battery life significantly.
Turn down the screen brightness to the dimmest level that you can
comfortably use. Operative word is "comfortably". It's not worth having
a battery if you can't see the screen! Reducing processor speed should
help too, but I've found that my PRCT doesn't work as well as I'd like
at less than top speed.

Also, I think it's a good idea to have "Switcher Bar" active... I always
use it to verify that PRCT is stopped before I start a new tuning with
it.
