Hi John,
I have special reading glasses for these, and I've seen one where the numerals weren't too bad. I wanted to make certain that there weren't any out there that I was missing. Thanks for the idea. I need to get my hands on one.

They have digital readout micrometers, if the numerals are too small, a magnifying glass can be used.

Does anyone out there have any recommendations on a micromiter to measure wire thickness for those of us who are vision impaired.? I have one of those round slotted kind, gray in color that you place over the string to see how think it is. It's a little tough to read.

Michelle,
A good way to remember without a chart:
Subtract 5 from the thickness, then divide by two, and voila! The wire size
(41-5+36, 36 divided* by 2 = 18)

*how DOES one get the division symbol on a computer keyboard??

Michelle,
Dave beat me to it but here's a chart you might like to keep handy.
I have one similar hanging on a wall in my shop. I can also send it
to in Excel if you can open that.

Michelle,
That would be correct. Wire that thick can have a mind of it's own!

Iââ¬â¢m new at this game Avery so please tell me if Iââ¬â¢m wrong. I just measured the scrap string I took off the piano at .041. Am I correct that this would be a size 18?
Itââ¬â¢s a giant old piano.
Thanks!
Michelle

Wow. That seems awfully big for middle C. You sure it wasn't a lower note?
