Subject: Is there a CA downside?
I've been reading lots about the benefits of CA, how much to use, and how to apply it. As one trained by folks who do not dope the tuning pins--and they make a good case--I wonder if there is a downside to using CA. It seems that the majority of responders on the list use it when they think necessary.
I look forward to 'hearing' some responses.
Richard
Richard,
This is not doping.
The confusion comes from the old time use of glycerine based agents that helped a bit then joined the enemy .
Ca is not for every piano, but a generic piano that will never support the investment in a proper rebuild is our prime candidate.
I CAed a Brambach last week and this piano is now tunable.
Downside? Sure, 1 Don't slop it all over the place
2 Don't stick yourself to a winter spinet
( those things are too heavy to carry and don't fit in a toyota)
3 Seriously, The stuff stinks! Use great ventilation !
I use fan on the piano and a box fan in the nearest window
4 Back to point 1, A few ounces will usually do the trick.
IMHO less is best.
