Farrell Piano asked; "Why DID folks get going with the hockey-stick long bridge ends? Clearly, designers of small pianos way back then had two paths to follow. Why did most go for the hockey-stick?" The only reason I can think of is that they tried to retain as far as possible down the scale the same harmonic structure or interval colouration, if you know what I mean.
