Reconfigure your hammer removing pliers (jpg attached).

A threaded insert fits into the pliers and a bolt into that.
Remove the threads from the end of the bolt.
Make an anvil on the other side with a turned-down bolt and a dowel.
The anvil face is to support the side of the hammer when not drilling through,
the turned bolt makes for a double-sided swedge for when you do.

A quick conversion reverts it back to hammer removing pliers.

A tip for quick hammer weight adjustment:
Measure the length of each graduation of lead and make spacers
to gage their cutting length to pre-cut a quantity.

So when you have to increase the weight by a specific amount just
pick the appropriate pre-cut lead and swedge in place.
