Reconfigure your hammer removing pliers (jpg attached). A threaded insert fits into the pliers and a bolt into that. Remove the threads from the end of the bolt. Make an anvil on the other side with a turned-down bolt and a dowel. The anvil face is to support the side of the hammer when not drilling through, the turned bolt makes for a double-sided swedge for when you do. A quick conversion reverts it back to hammer removing pliers. A tip for quick hammer weight adjustment: Measure the length of each graduation of lead and make spacers to gage their cutting length to pre-cut a quantity.
