The lid is part of the harp which swings away to expose the action...you only remove the harp lid screws if you are going to "gasp" tune it...

Just had the reverse of a brain f@#t, The lid has to come off FIRST! It is held on with 4-6 screws ,(phillips head, anodized type). Hard to locate sometimes in bad light, DAMHIK!
