Pin moves, pitch doesn't

Alan's theory seems unlikely to me, since, if the hammer is hitting 
the string at all, the lowered tension would be most noticeable.  Is 
it possible that, in both cases, a shifted hammer wasn't consistently 
contacting string?  Doesn't altogether make sense either though, 
since Richard says it does eventually change.  What about bridge pins 
or hitch pins moving?  That would be fun.  Does the delay happen in 
both directions?  Friction?  Demons?  Kharma?
