iron wound strings

 Chris,

You could try begging Jim Arledge to try it. If you provide him with the material I bet he would do it.

Otherwise, yes, you have to go to Germany or England for your wound strings and pay well for them. That is an issue in duplicating wound strings, i.e. does the job, customer, instrument warrant the significantly greater expense? I prefer to duplicate what was there if the client's budget can be stretched a bit further, and let the customer know the cost will be substantially higher.

After searching, I've not found a source for iron wound strings on this side
of the Atlantic. Where can I get them without resorting to importation from
Germany?
