There is quite a bit of info in the archives about neat ways to remove
old elbows. I use a small long-nose vise grip pliers that has the tip
ground down so you can get in there and crush the remaining plastic
without damaging the pin.

Depending on the piano, the whole job takes somewhere around 2.25 - 3
hours.  ...UNLESS you have those elbows that refuse to give it up.
