You could sand the cork surface with sandpaper on a piece of glass to 
get it straight.

Use the rounded edges down for sanding broad surfaces and the square edges
for getting into inside corners.

My blocks are made from 3/4' plexiglass blocks. Some are faced (1/4 
sheet sized)
with back rail cloth for taking down the surfaces primarily. The rest 
are faced with
bushing cloth.  These don't warp.
