<< A recording studio is hearing the damper shoosh which occurs when depressing the sustain pedal. Is there a way to decrease or eliminate this sound for close mic-ing? >> It is usually the trichords. Remove the dampers, clean the strings with the finest steel wool, or an eraser. Make sure you have cleaned in between the strings, on their sides. Dust the dampers with Teflon powder, and re-install. It may be that you can cut the damper legs off so that they are no more than flush with the bottom of the strings, but this can cause some settling problems.
