Mine broke at the mid-point of the 90 degree bend. When I cut the remaining bend off to get back into straight wire, the wire "crunched" when cut rather than the usual resistance as if it had crystallized. Another 1/4" down the wire it was normal. Making a new becket bend and reinstalling the wire worked fine. I agree with you Jurgen, in 20 years and 4,000 pianos I have never encountered this.
