Might want to add: make and match up the dowels on the bottom of the knee board with the holes in the bottom cross piece... David Ilvedson, RPT Pacifica, CA 94044 Original message From: "Alan R. Some tips from my (somewhat limited) experience ... 1. Use plywood that is faced on one side with birch or some other made-to-be-seen hardwood. 2. Measure 73 times, then cut. Make sure you allow sufficient gap at the top for the spring and to get your fingers in there (or drill a hole near the spring for reach in, or affix a knob very securely to the top). Also, pre-plan for any power cords, Dampp-Chaser tubes, etc., so you don't have to cut into your newly finished board later. 3. Make sure it fits and can easily be installed/uninstalled before final sanding and finishing. 4. Take the keyslip, or some other piece with the old finish on it, to a paint/varnish/stain specialty shop (not Wal-mart) and let them help you select appropriate stain and finish materials.
