Bass string question

I had to replace a bass string that snapped while my customer played on his  
2005 Yamaha U1.
I got the replacement string from the Yamaha company instead of   calling in 
the measurements to 
Mapes. The new string sounds very good -- it's a bichord string. Do you  
think it's a better replacement 
than a Mapes replacement, and if so, why?
