> Aliphatic (yellow wood glue) for common woodworking tasks, but doesn't > work well with shear stress. I read this all the time, but it is in fact just not true for any shear stress level you'll find in a piano (if anywhere). I've used original Titebond for a long time with never any indication at all of shear creep or failure. It just doesn't happen. I laminate crown into soundboard ribs with Titebond, which is a fairly high shear stress joint, with never the slightest indication of failure under long term load. I also glue them to the panel, and glue the assembly to the rim with Titebond, again with no problems. Maybe there's a nasty lousy yellow glue I am not aware of out there that creeps under shear stress, and never gets hard enough to not be dented by a fingernail, but the original Titebond I use for general woodwork doesn't meet the description in my experience.
