You replace a bass string for a customer and you want to tune the new string
sharp enough so that when it's all broken in, it will settle down to the
exact pitch it's supposed to be at. You want to stick a mute on it, and tell the
customer to pull out the mute after x number of weeks, and the string should
be just about in tune at that time, with no need to come back several times
to re-tune it. Does anyone know any kind of formula, based on the string
measurements and tension, that will tell what pitch to tune it to and how long it
will take to settle down to the right pitch? If there were such a formula, we
wouldn't have to keep coming back to the customer every few weeks to re-tune
the string until it breaks in.
