What's a tuning business worth?

"How about the buyer paying the seller one half of what the buyer makes from the seller's list in the first year?"\

I did something similar some years ago. A local tuner passed away and his wife tried to get some value out of his business. I was just starting out. I paid half of what his sales were for his last year. looking back on the arrangement, I'd say that it was a fair deal. It worked out well for me because I was looking for work, and the tuner's estate got some reasonable return.

I would suggest that my arrangement might be less hassle than the proposed one because one can look at the numbers at the onset, make a decision and finalize things ASAP, whereas the other proposed tact has folks getting together after one year to review funds, etc. - just seems like a potential for hassle.

Whatever.

Hope my comments help.

How about the buyer paying the seller one half of what the buyer makes from the seller's list in the first year? The seller would agree to call each established client throughout that first year to arrange and introduce the new tuner. That way the seller would know exactly which clients are using the buyer and therefore what is owed the seller. Payments as the year progresses. If desired, an additional fee of something like $5 for calling each client could be charged.

I will be looking to retire sometime in the next few years and I'm wondering what my business may be worth if I sell it. Do any of you have experience either buying or selling a tuning/repair business (no physical retail location, just a well established clientele)? What is the relationship between annual income and selling price? Any ideas will be appreciated.
