Thanks one and all for the advice. I'm planning on buying just two
chisels for now, and a couple sharpening stones. Both chisels will be
mortising chisels as I think perhaps for now thats a good place to
start. Rounding the contour of the notch will be minimal from what
I've heard so far in this choice.... but before you learn to swim you
have to learn to put your head in the water as it were... so mortising
chisels it is.
Interesting (and cool) that Ron N posted a link to Taylor Chisels. Just
last nite I went out to my brother in laws house to borrow for the time
being his.... and he has Taylors. The only one wide enough was a 15 mm
one... and boy does it need sharpening :) But in lue of getting my own
these will get me started.
Thanks again.
Cheers

Ric,
I'd recommend looking at www.japanwoodworker.com
That said, it looks like you are pretty much there anyway. I think
as far
as selecting a particular chisel or two for, say, your notching, is
very
individual. I know some who use standard bench chisels, others who
use a
mortising chisel, still others using crank neck chisels, still
others using
firmer chisels or even paring chisels.
I'd also echo Jim's comment that unless you like the aesthetics of a
nice
line-up of fine chisels above your bench, I'd go one at a time and
find the
size/style that you prefer.
