Steinway action noise

David,

                I agree. Too far toward the rep lever. Do you mean shimming
the top half of the wippen flange? If so I agree. That might be the only
thing that I can do.

Dear Greg and all-

This was a problem in the late 90's to early 2000's with new  Steinway
models. It was usually corrected with a combination  of shimming the top
half of the rep flange out more ,  relieving the touching portions of the
jack / hammer flange and making sure that after touch was not excessive. I
would have to agree with Ed though, that this rep looks WAY too far toward
the player.
