        Yamaha Reintroduces Cable-Nelson Brand

Yamaha Corporation of America, Piano Division, has reintroduced the classic Cable-Nelson brand

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Yamaha Corporation of America, Piano Division, reintroduces the classic Cable-Nelson brand at Winter NAMM 2006. Presented as the entry-level to Yamaha quality, this revived brand will be produced at the new Yamaha factory outside of Shanghai, China, with all design and manufacture to be executed by Yamaha using Yamaha employees and equipment. The Cable-Nelson product will offer the same 10-year warranty as other Yamaha brands, with the full support of Yamaha Corporation of America.

Reintroduced at Winter NAMM 2006, Cable-Nelson is the entry-level to Yamaha quality.
The new Cable-Nelson CN116 is a 46" (116 cm) studio-size vertical piano features a traditional cabinet with toe block and square legs, and will be offered in a high-gloss polyester ebony finish. The piano will be featured in the center of Yamaha's upright piano display at NAMM.

The Cable-Nelson brand traces its roots to 1903 in Chicago, when Fayette S. Cable purchased two small piano companies. These companies, Lakeside Piano Company and Sweetland Piano Company, then became the Fayette S. Cable Piano Company. The Cable-Nelson brand resulted from a merger with the Nelson Piano Company in 1905.

"After a quarter-century absence, this classic American brand will enjoy new life supported by outstanding Yamaha design and craftsmanship," says Bernie McCaffery, Acoustic Piano marketing manager, Piano Division, Yamaha Corporation of America. "Customers can expect to receive the quality they expect from Yamaha at a very attractive price."

The Everett Piano Company bought Cable-Nelson in the late 1920's, moving its manufacturing operation to South Haven, Michigan. In 1954, the Hammond Organ company acquired both Everett Piano and Cable-Nelson. Yamaha purchased both Everett and Cable-Nelson in 1973. While Everett piano production continued, the production of Cable-Nelson pianos ended in 1981.
