Live at the Atelier: Mike Garson Trio & Tamir Hendelman Sunday September 9th & Sunday September 23rd Wow. It's fall already. Supposedly. What happened to the time? I want you to join me in an afternoon of joy and wonder with one of my favorite musicians ever. Those of you familiar with the Atelier---and that's most of you--- know that Tamir Hendelman has been a keystone, a cornerstone of what we're trying to present in terms of truly world-class piano playing since we started these concerts 2 years ago. Here's some things I've said in the past about this wondrous, fertile artist: "Tamir swings in the deepest sense of the feeling represented by the word---impeccable rhythm and beautiful, fresh melodies: his playing is surprising, even awesome in its precision and passion." "When the legends of jazz hear this young man play, they know they have found a peer. Classically trained, impeccably prepared, and masterfully rhythmic, deep in the African roots of the music, Hendelman is a complete jazz player..." "The great ones know the piano player is the linchpin." (Hendelman occupies the piano chair in two bands with rave critical reviews and commercial success--- the Jeff Hamilton Trio, led by the legendary and award-winning drummer, and the Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra, where Hamilton is joined by bassist, composer, and orchestrator/arranger John Clayton to form what Tommy LiPuma called "an ultimate jazz rhythm section.") Again, an unprecedented opportunity to see this magnificent team player risk having all the attention turned on him, to fly without a net---to connect, and take the audience on a singular journey. I'll be there, with bells on---and you'll thank yourself for a long time if you are too.
