Aha! That nails it. You're right. They don't make light like 
they used to, and lines, particularly vernier lines, have 
gotten much farther away. The universe is expanding, and we're 
becoming less substantial all the time.?
?

For scaling, I use this snap gage. Someone used to sell these, 
but by the time I decided I wanted one, I couldn't find them 
any more, so I stole the idea and made this. I find it 
accurate enough, and it'll reach anywhere I need it to, giving 
a quick reading I can see. For what it's worth.?
