Hey Guys: I would like to share, with you, something out of the past about electronic keyboards. These instruments were made by companies such as Hammond, Baldwin, Gulbransen, ant others. They were using the new technology called transistors and they were burning up the keyboard industry. If you haven't guessed by now. They were called spinet organs. Yes sir. You could play the melody with one hand and it would play the whole chord for you. It would play an accompaniment that you could play along with. You could program the rhythm section and play along with it. You could make it sound like a trumpet, saxophone, banjo, or of all things a piano. Imagine that. Well what happened to this business? Some of you will rember that around 1983 this industry vanished. The dealer that I was servicing for at the time, had a floor full of spinet organs and all of sudden nobody was buying them. Are digital keyboard any different than transistor keyboards? Well, they have more gadgets and have a full keyboard but they have the same basic sound source, and that is the sine wave, which is the same smoothe sound that you get from a flute. Will they succeed where the spinet organ failed? Only time will tell. But don't be suprised if one day soon no body wants a digital keyboard. Just a thought!
