Thanks, Ed. I used no test blow at all in tuning as I was looking for it to 
lower pitch with no results, so, I just learned something.

The screw stringer I have needed the same approach to tune i.e. pull up
close to pitch then "settle" the with forte test blows to get to pitch.
Then I discovered that if a little bit of lubrication placed on each side
and back of the string hook where it passes through its guide slot, made it
far easier with almost no firm test blows to get to pitch. Protek was all I
had.  The piano needs tuning again so, I'll see if the lube is still
affective.
