Talk about an over-rated piano...Fazioli...not that I'd turn one down...

Mr. Loeb,

Steinway NY approves PianoDisc (full 88 note player system) for all of their pianos. This includes routing out access through the keybed to the underside of the keys and because it is a full 88 note system part of the legs as well. This isn't practically visible from out of the piano. The only sound impact of player mechanisms is their actual working sounds. Some are better then others. Pedal solenoids are usually the noisiest.

As for a system, properly equipped it can be an education support item for piano students, as well as an entertainment item. This is one way we get more pianos into people's homes. If it works to do that, I'm all for it.

Really now, what is so sacred about a Steinway CG? I love that they usually can be made to sound decent but I hate how terribly made they usually are. Now if you were talking about a Fazioli... :-) Actually people who buy those probably usually do add players to them, goes with the territory. Bosendorfer recognized this and came up with their own player system.

Does anyone have any feelings about turning a Steinway concert grand into an electronic player piano? I have a potential buyer of my piano who wants to add the disc system, or something like that. As a piano purist, I am considering not selling her the piano if she is serious because I don't want to affect the quality of the sound or action of the piano. But, is it possible to attach these devices without affecting anything? The piano would be in her home, but would be used for rather large (~100 people) home performances.
