I take care to align the open jaws side, one side or the other of the tool OVER the bushing/hole so the pin presses through and stops at the edge of the tool as it begins to pass out of the bushing on the far side of the flange. I've found I press out far fewer flange bushings this way. I then re-position the tool and finish pressing the pin through. I can't stress enough the importance of a good set of flushcutting center pin nippers, I just replaced my old ones with the german made ones from Schaff No.231 pg.67. I have dedicated them just for the use of cutting center pins so as not to damage them cutting anything else. I also have to agree with whoever said to acquire an old action and spend a few hours practicing re-pinning, you gain experience, muscle memory and find which technique works best for you. Mike -- I feel sorry for the person who can't get genuinely excited about his work. Not only will he never be satisfied, but he will never achieve anything worthwhile.
