Between the two in question, Mapes and Roslau, I've never detected any tuning problems when mixing them and typically use Roslau wire even when replacing a string on a NY Steinway (which I believe use Mapes). Wire from a different maker can produce a different spectrum of harmonics, be harder or softer etc., so it would be reasonable to suppose that under certain conditions a unison strung with two qualities of wire would be false.
