Hammer thickness Trimming

Disk sanders work quite well but leave a smeared messy-looking hammer. Table saws work quite well (if, perhaps more dangerous) and leave a very clean hammer.

        In regards to hammer thickness trimming, wouldn't using a disc sander work much better? It would be a lot safer to use in my opinion.
