Julia, I use a forceps type tool called a towel clamp. You should be able to buy it for about $15.00. I got mine from my dentist. It pierces the hammer from both sides. Works very well and easy to control. I don't know if you would want to pierce the hammer with 6 or 9 needles at one time.
