Hi Steve, When strings are not level with the striking hammer they will ring out of phase. One string starting earlier than another as it is hit first and then the others following. The phase is the vibration of the string. Matching the strings through leveling the strings and then mating the hammer eliminates myriads of voicing problems and at the same time strengthens the fundimental of the tone and adds sustain. #320 on my site Joe Goss RPT Mother Goose Tools imatunr at srvinet.com www.mothergoosetools.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Steve Blasyak To: pianotech at ptg.org Sent: Saturday, August 30, 2008 1:04 PM Subject: Phasing/fazing Hey now to all, Well my next question is about phasing or fazing? Not sure how to spell it correctly. I took Roger Jolley's all day class on piano prep, unfortunately I had to leave half way through the afternoon session as my daughter was graduating from HS that evening. Roger used the term phasing on a few occasions mostly when talking about voicing and strings. Could some one be so kind as to clarify this to me. What is phasing? (how ever it is spelled) Thanx to all in advance. Steve Blasyak RPT Orange County Chapter Pura Vida -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
