I'd write them back and say, "I"ll appraise it for $40,000, you can give me
$10,000, sell the piano for $15,000, and then you'll be even further ahead
of the game!"

Why not appraise it at $40k, and offer to haul it off for them?

I'd wish them luck with whoever their appraiser finally turns 
out to be, draw the drapes, turn out the lights, and check the 
caller ID before answering the phone for a while.
