When coming to a new piano for the first time, it's a good habit to make your first adjustment on each pin to lower the tension slightly. If there's any corrosion, you'll hear the click and feel it release, and you'll be doing it in the safe direction (not adding any extra stress to the string). Once the bond is broken, the string will render better, and you'll have a better chance of safely pulling it sharp. If you go sharp first instead, you may put a lot of force on that small first string segment off the pin, increasing the chance of breakage. --Cy-- Cy Shuster, RPT ABQ, NM www.shusterpiano.com
