Mike: These are the kinds of bushings I removed on two new (2004) Steinway Ms in our practice rooms. It did seem odd. dave David M. Porritt, RPT dporritt at smu.edu<mailto:dporritt at smu.edu> From: pianotech-bounces at ptg.org [mailto:pianotech-bounces at ptg.org] On Behalf Of Mike Morvan Sent: Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:35 PM To: pianotech Subject: [pianotech] removing glue, pictures Jon, I feel your pain. I removed these bushings from a early 90's keyboard recently and they are double sided tape bushings. Along the left side of them in the picture is the hot melt bushing cloth. While we can still get pretty good bushing cloth from some supply houses, it seems that bushing cloth in production keyboards and buttons is more of a felt than a cloth. The poor glue and cloth leads to quick failure. Below is a picture of supply house buttons purchased long ago and could not be used because the glue has failed (prior to installation) and no two mortises are the same size or same shape. Yikes, be careful. Mike [cid:image001.jpg at 01C95DEE.1CC06420] [cid:image002.jpg at 01C95DEE.1CC06420] -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
