    Another advantage of using the steel brake tubing:  It will stand slight 
bending and straightening if needed to get around  bridges and bass strings. 
I flattened one end of a 1/4" brake line 48" long and drilled two holes in 
that end to accomodate plain wire.  As John said, it eliminates twisting of 
the two wires when installing.  With apologies to Pianotek.......
