Another advantage of using the steel brake tubing: It will stand slight bending and straightening if needed to get around bridges and bass strings. I flattened one end of a 1/4" brake line 48" long and drilled two holes in that end to accomodate plain wire. As John said, it eliminates twisting of the two wires when installing.
