Mea culpa, this procedure is what I use on grands.
On uprights, I suppose a small shim behind the rest felt would allow
the same thing. Yes, there is a slight erratic look to the hammerline on a
grand that is regulated this way, but when the pianist is in the middle of a
Chopin screamer, the look of the hammerline is far less important than a
keyboard that is as consistant in feel as possible.
