Speaking of beef, my wife and I have been getting ours from a local Amish farmer, grass fed all natural (feeding grain to cows chemically alters their fat content to all the bad stuff). He raises Scottish Highlanders which is a breed that does exceptionally well on grass. My meat processor is amazed at how healthy these animals are. The average price per pound of actual beef you put in the freezer comes out to around $3.50 per pound (that's paying the farmer about $1.25 on the hoof). We just did a rib roast and sliced off our own prime rib. The difference is amazing, it looks very little like restaurant prime rib, virtually no fat and all edible. And very delicious. We also have purchased cow shares from another Amish farmer and get whole unprocessed milk. Our delivery of 2 gallons yesterday was rich and creamy, milked fresh that morning. Homogenizing milk breaks down the fat molecules and allows them to pass directly into your blood stream. Not good. Pasteurizing kills the nutrients. We also get cheese and butter. >From another Amish farmer we get poultry products from range fed chickens and turkeys. The chicken sausage is wonderful. >From another Amish farmer we get seasonal produce. For a flat fee he ships us a box full of whatever produce is in season. I would encourage you all to look for local farmers you can directly support. You don't have to look too hard to find those that try to use natural farming methods. Once you try you'll never go back to factory farm products. The cost is slightly more, but considerably less than today's health care costs. Treat your body right, it's the only one you got.
