You don't really need to install strings. Just measure the distance from the key bed to the capo bar and subtract the string diameter (if you really want to be precise). Stretch a piece of string between the agraffes and the bridge and measure the height at each end of the tenor and bass. A digital tape measure is nice for this. Or, string the piano and then measure. With Steinway pianos, string height measurements vary as do hammer bore requirements.
