The water doesn't need to be boiling, and it's better if it's not; 
just hottish and with a few drops of detergent in to speed up the 
absorption.  So long as they're dipped until the felt has absorbed as 
much water as it can, time will do the work and after a couple of 
hours the felt and leather will just lift off clean.  If they've used 
a particularly strong glue, they may need to be left overnight.
